No One Warned Me About Falling in Love.

I knew I’d fall in love someday. Actually not true… I had started to give up at the age of 40+.

But when I did give myself the permission to allow the fantasy, I just assumed it would involve candlelit dinners, butterflies, and maybe a few dramatic movie moments.

No one warned me about…

…the weird stuff.

No one warned me that I’d become emotionally attached to airport terminals.

Or that I’d start calculating every drive in terms of “It’s only seven hours.” Only six hours if I hold my pee the entire time. (Bad idea, I know.)

No one warned me I’d suddenly become a flower lady.

I used to walk past bouquets in the grocery store without a second thought.

Now I have opinions.

And preferences.

No one warned me that airplanes would become attractive.

Not airplanes…

The man who fixes them.

Still counts.

No one warned me that a man saying,

“Goodnight Love.”

would become one of the most romantic sentences in the English language.

No one warned me I’d smile every time my phone buzzed…

…only to discover it was marketing texts from Mantra Bands.

Tragic.

Yeah, I know we texted 56 times a day, but still.

No one warned me I’d start seeing tiny signs everywhere.

A random star.

A song.

A feather.

A flower.

Coincidence?

Probably.

Do I care?

Absolutely not.

No one warned me I’d become completely unreasonable.

“…Hey love, no I am not hungry, but I kinda am. Ok I will just have a snack. Thanks for caring. Ewww. This chicken is nasty. Nasty, dry rubbery ass chicken is nasty.”

No one warned me that I would want to share so many reels with you from Instagram.

Seriously, sometimes I have to stop myself, “ok 12 is enough for one day!”

No one warned me that I’d become weirdly invested in aviation maintenance.

I still have no idea what half the words mean.

But I nod supportively like I’m on the job with you…

All while being deathly afraid to fly now thanks to your work horror stories.

No one warned me that Whole Foods would become a date.

Or Costco…..yeah right. We know better. Maybe one day we can go back. (Again, yeah right.)

Or literally anywhere as long as we were together.

No one warned me I’d find a man who somehow makes me feel beautiful…

…while I’m wearing a busted t-shirt and joggers, and enough dry shampoo to qualify as a fire hazard.

No one warned me that peace would be so attractive.

Not drama.

Peace.

Turns out that’s incredibly sexy.

No one warned me that after all these years…

I’d still discover an entirely new version of myself.

The one who laughs harder.

Sleeps better. Well when my hormones aren’t raging anyway. Thanks estrogen.

Worries less.

Believes again.

Feels incredibly safe to rest and be herself.

And no one—absolutely no one—warned me…

…that forever could begin with something as ordinary as one thoughtful message.

Looking back…

I’m kind of glad they didn’t.

Some surprises are worth waiting so long for.
