The weekend we didn’t know we would repeat.

The first time we visited Greenville during that first weekend in April, 2025…

we low-key thought we were celebrating a new job.

You had interviewed the week before and received an offer. We were excited about what the future might look like, imagining all the ways life was beginning to fall into place.

Life, of course, had other plans.

That job would disappear before it ever really began.

At the time, we couldn’t have known.

But looking back…

I’m almost glad we didn’t. 🥹

Because that weekend became about something so much bigger.

I remember it was prom weekend for the locals.

We noticed high school couples walking through downtown, dressed in tuxedos and beautiful gowns, admiring them from afar.

You told me something I’d never forgotten.

You had never been to prom.

So later that evening, back at our little AirB&B, I changed that.

No tuxedo.

No fancy dress.

No decorations. (Well, I mean, I DID hang up string lights.)

No audience.

Just us…

Slow dancing in a tiny space.

It wasn’t planned to a “t”. I knew I wanted to dance with you because you told me you never had a prom before, but what a coincidence (or was it?) it was Greenville’s prom.

It was perfect.

Neither of us knew that exactly one year later… in April of 2026…

We would return to Greenville.

Not as a couple meeting halfway.

Not wondering the logistics of the next meet up.

Not hoping the future would work out.

We returned as husband and wife.

On our honeymoon getaway.

Walking the same streets…

Holding the same hands…

Only this time, there were no long-distance goodbyes waiting for us at the end of the weekend.

I think about that first dance we had a year prior.

How it wasn’t really our prom after all.

Maybe…

It was simply our first dance together.

The Universe just let us borrow it a year early. 🥹❤️
